Ingredients

  • ¾ cup butter flavored shortening (such as Crisco)
  • 1 ¼ cups packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¾ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Combine the butter flavored shortening (such as Crisco), brown sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a large bowl.
  • Beat in the egg. Set aside.
  • Combine the flour, salt, and baking soda in a separate bowl.
  • Add the dry mixture to the wet dough mixture and combine.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Drop by rounded tablespoons onto a cookie sheet.
  • Bake 8-9 minutes at 375 °F. Remove the cookies from the oven when they are slightly golden.

Notes

  • Do not over beat the egg. Over beating the egg can affect the final texture of the chocolate chip cookies.
  • Remove the chocolate chip cookies from the oven as soon as they begin to firm up and turn slightly golden. Let the cookies sit on the cookie sheet for a few minutes to continue to firm before transferring the cookies to a cookie rack.
  • Regular flavored vegetable shortening can be used in place of the butter flavored shortening. The flavor may taste slightly different, but the texture will be the same.
